Drumz Rool!

Biography

Me during the Musical production 'She Loves Me'A man with a passion for the violin or the guitar can keep this passion fairly secret as he passes through the trivialities of every day life. But a man with a passion for drumming can be detected in any location at any time. Brian Gould is such a man, and you always know where he is because his hands make a tympanum of every surface he touches. You can detect his mood from the rhythm: an unsyncopated tapping generally indicates that his mind is not fully occupied by the task at hand, a steady beat means he is lost in thought. No sound at all means trouble.

Brian has been playing privately since his first introduction to drums at age 13. He has been performing publicly since age 15. The range of percussable possibilities is limitless. He will provide a solid rhythmic foundation for any music that deserves him, from Latin Rhythms through Thrash Metal, Rock, Pop, Blues, R 'n' B, Soul, Funk, Reggae and Electronic music to Broadway musicals.

Drumz Rool Eh!At the age when such decisions are necessary, Brian decided to pursue drumming professionally and enrolled at Mohawk College to study music. While there he studied Drum Set and Latin Percussion with Ernie Porthouse (New Hamilton Orchestra, Peter Appleyard) as well as Jazz Harmony, Conducting, 20th Century Composition and Electronic Music. Since graduating he toured Canada twice with Blues Singer/Songwriter/Harmonica Player, George “Wild Child” Butler, scoured the province of Ontario with pop/rock band Hennessey and has traveled to Itabashi, Tokyo, Japan with the Musical Production “Anne of Green Gables” for two command performances at the Boku Ki Kon theatre

Brian's progress through life is much like his procession through a room. People's heads start to bob as they become immersed in the rhythm of his constant drumming. Currently, those bobbing in unison include a wide variety of students and an even wider variety of groups and audiences in his vast repertoire of performances. In addition to musicals such as Godspell, he performs regularly with The Groovy Brothers, Ric Jacobs, and Sugar Dali. If you can't "bob along" in person, you can become part of the in crowd by listening to the Animate's CD release 'Casual Addiction', or Molten Blue's 'Vote for Orb'.
